Quasi

Bio

[Edit this profile]
Quasi from Portland, Oregan are the most compact of set-ups; just Sam Coomes (keys and tricks) and Janet Weiss (rocket percussion). Out of that, they somehow manage to create the illusion of thrilling sophisticated neo-orch pop, punctuated with chaotic breakdowns and unexpected pyrotechnics. This weird dynamic can almost make the music seem at war with itself, and is one reason why Quasi is always worth checking out. The other thing which cannot be avoided is Quasi's great, great way with winning pop melodies, which has inevitably led to some comparison with 60s heroes like The Kinks and The Zombies. But we find Quasi's very own brand of awkward gracefulness somehow very north-western hand-made, and are now hanging out impatiently for the next delivery.
