Marillion

Marillion started in 1980 in Aylesbury as a prog rock band heavily influenced by the likes of Genesis and Peter Gabriel. Somehow they became popular; not helped in part by extrovert and flamboyant frontman and occasional alcoholic Fish, and it is this line up for which the bands is most well-known as is most of their more popular songs like the excreable 'Kayleigh'. Fish left in 1988, and since then the band have heavily curbed their prog-rock leaning, and tended to go into a more anonymous AOR / MOR rock direction, with their fanbase steadily dwindling down to a devoted hardcore. It's a far cry from the days when they could sell out five nights at Wembley Arena...
