BLOC Weekend: The DiS Review

In Depth by Rory Gibb

Butlins Minehead has a slightly jarring atmosphere in the middle of the night. Sprawling chalet lots and the cocked arms of fairground apparatus have an unnerving tendency to suddenly loom from the darkness without warning. While ATP’s beardy warmth adds a softer edge to that experience, its intensity is further heightened at BLOC Weekend.»

BLOC Weekend 2011: A DiS Preview

In Depth by Rory Gibb

It’s fair to say that DiS is no stranger to Butlins, Minehead. Given that we try our hardest to attend as many editions of All Tomorrow’s Parties as possible each year. The faint edge of chaos that still runs through ATP, especially late at night, pales in insignificance compared to BLOC Weekend, which tends to descend upon the place like an ode to hedonistic excess. This year’s edition takes place on the weekend of the 11th to the 13th March, though if you’re learning this for the first time, you’re a little late to the party – it’s entirely sold out.»

Anyway, Luke has taken this whole Nordic week thing a bit far and disappeared to Finland, so you're left with me making a playlist, insert your hatred in the comments section below or yuhknow, maybe just say something nice about something you think should have been on this playlist.»

Caribou by Jem

This Week's Singles: 04/10/10

In Depth by Wendy Roby

Even though Other People's Chirren are officially insufferable, this week's guest illustrator is my nephew, Jem. He is five and likes football, GoGos and Football GoGos. Here, he has drawn a band with one guitarist, two banjo players and a dog. And in case you salty, jaded malcontents were wondering, they are not high, they just have star-shaped sunglasses on. Also, as I am sure you will have noticed, they have TWO DRUMKITS. 'So basically, Jem, you've drawn Caribou.' is what I said. 'Wendy, next time you come round will you bring some sweets, because I'm running out' was his reply. KIDS EH.»
