Last night the Super Bowl happened. The Giants won, so well done to them. As always, there's a lot of half-time entertainment and this year it was up to people like Madonna and M.I.A. to provide it. Unfortunately - as with Janet Jackson' weird star-shaped nipple a few years ago - there was some "controversy". »

A new track from M.I.A. surfaced earlier this week. Called 'Bad Girls' it's taken from her Vicki Leekx mixtape. Now, as is often the case, there's a video for the single, directed by Romain Gavras (who has worked with her on 'Born Free') and filmed in Morocco. It was premiered over on VICE's new video channel, Noisey but you can also watch it here.»

M.I.A needs a bit of credit here - she certainly deserves it. Her new video for 'Story To Be Told' very much carries on the theme of ancient computer displays going fucking crazy. Although it doesn't quite have the artistic sophistication of that one where all the ginger kids were running away, only to be cruelly blown to pieces of rusty dust, it does something. I'm not sure I can describe what it is. »

As has been said before and will surely be said again, M.I.A. really knows what she's doing. No shrinking violet. You've got to hand it to her, she knows how to 'do' publicity. Following on from the hideously designed website, the heinously named album and a whole lot of shit about a negative profile piece, the increasingly annoying M.I.A. has revealed the cover art for her new album, /\/\ /\ Y \/ .»

We should really be used to M.I.A doing things her own way by now, but then again it's always nice to get a surprise in one form or another from her, I guess. There's a bit of triple-barrelled news this time as the previously unnamed album now has a name,»

Fed up of speculative album news stories after the Joanna Newsom affair of yesterday? Well, tough, because we've got more, this time M.I.A. related, aaaaaaaaand a video to accompany it. Proof. Of something.»

A short while ago the annual Mercury Music Prize wheeled out its somewhat predictable list of names. DiS took exception to the several notable omissions. There are releases which have enriched our worlds and could have done with the leg-up that the Mercury was established to provide. Rather than mope around and moan on messageboards we decided to set-up our own award.»
