Green Man Festival Preview – Part Two: What To See
It would appear that this coming weekend in the UK is a bit of a Mad One for festivals. Whilst most of the good ship DiS are drinking to their survival of the great Gateway wars of last week across at Leicester’s Summer Sundae – with yet more up north at Beacons Festival in Skipton – I’m taking another trip down to the Welsh hills to indulge in the delights of Green Man Festival.»
Playing records with Neil Hamburger
DiS met up with America’s funnyman, Neil Hamburger and we played him some records... _"When you’re done with this interview can you throw this computer into a river? Cos this is really quite a bad collection of songs you’re playing me. It really doesn’t give you much hope for the future, does it?" _»

Field Day 2011: the DiS review
Since its inception in 2007, the Field Day festival has been beset by hitches. Consecutive years have been marred by problems with inaudible sound, extraordinary toilet queues, comic band cancellations (Dan Deacon losing his passport anyone?) combining with moronic last minute mass schedule alterations, or simply by being idiotically put on at the height of the English summer when the organisers should know it will piss it down. What promoters Eat Your Own Ears have got consistently right is the bill, with 2011 no exception.»

2010 In The Mix by Rory Gibb
So to close off 2010 it feels appropriate to take a scan backward through some of the year’s most exciting developments. We’ve recorded a mix that gathers together some of our favourite tracks from this year, from the blissful sensory overload of Oneohtrix Point Never and Hype Williams to the darkened soundscapes of Demdike Stare and Raime, alongside a healthy dose of music from the fertile ground explored by dubstep’s progeny. You can stream it from Mixcloud or download immediately below; the tracklist follows at the bottom of this article.»
Drowned in Sound staff members: #1 Albums of 2010
Whilst one big site-defining list with somewhat arbitrary positionings, full of compromises and a whiff of fair-play politics is all well and good, the far more fascinating thing is the ONE album people believe stands on a column, far above all others. Over the past 10 years, this has usually been pretty much the same four or five albums topping people's list, making the job of picking the top five albums of the year, somewhat easier. Not in tweeny-ten, oh no. This year, as you'll see below, has been the least lacking in consensus since records began (ok, as we're sure you know as we keep banging on about it, it was only 10 years ago we launched, so this clearly isn't the most scientific of research!). »

Iceland Airwaves: The DiS Review
Reykjavík is a beautiful city. That’s the first thing that springs to mind when we arrive within its limits during the pitch black early hours, virtually nonexistent street light during the drive from the airport sending a striking vista of stars rolling out across the night sky. Despite Friday morning dawning cool and cloudy, it’s no less impressive in the morning light: old-style buildings and expanses of green are interspersed with modern touches and unfinished constructions, perhaps continued relics of the country’s monetary collapse. But for all that event’s devastating economic and social impacts, the city’s yearly Iceland Airwaves festival couldn’t feel more open and welcoming in 2010, with a diverse and friendly crowd and an almost unnerving volume of excellent music. »
Spotifriday #66 - This Week on DiS ft. Elliott Smith, Darkstar, Trent Reznor, James Blake...
Where did this week go? And how on earth have we managed to get to number 66 in our Spotify series of weekly playlists wot act like a hyperlink-laden cover mount of what we've covered on the site this week? Time, it really doth fly. Anyway, Luke has taken this whole Nordic week thing a bit far and disappeared to Finland, so you're left with me making a playlist, insert your hatred in the comments section below or yuhknow, maybe just say something nice about something you think should have been on this playlist.»

Aquacrunk? What the Crunk? - A brief introduction to the watery side of electronics
The world of electronic music is so littered with sub-genres now that it is far too difficult for many to keep track. More than anything, the awareness that terms for certain minutiae of change in a sonic spectrum is journalistic. But sometimes such defining words can feel appropriate – encapsulation will be impossible forever,»
