September is upon us and that means festival season is as good as over. Thank goodness then, for Rob Da Bank and his space-themed Bestival, a one last hurrah and glorious standout in a dizzying summer calendar. There's even the threat of sun this year. B»
Sunday has various songs written about it and dedicated to it but almost all of them are downbeat dreamy affairs. Strangely Sunday has nowhere near as many songs written about it as Saturday but maybe that's because those who've already written songs about Sunday have pretty much nailed it? Most of this playlist touches on things you might do on a Sunday but it's mostly songs that give me the Sunday feeling. »
While it'll probably be nigh on time for the Apocalypse before consensus has finally been reached on whether Pitchfork represents the apotheosis of music journalism or everything wrong with everything, there's no denying that Ryan Schreiber and cohorts st»
I've been hearing people talking up Rockness as better than T In The Park. One cursory look at the line-ups for both festivals will tell you this isn't true, at least in the quantity and sheer size of artists playing, but what Rockness can boast is an atmosphere to match TITP in scaled down format, with a greater emphasis on DJs and dance acts. The organiser's boast that it is 'the most beautiful festival in the world' is entirely vindicated by the picture postcard view of Loch Ness and the lush glen spreading out behind the main stage, with the weather mostly brilliant sunshine.»
Ok, so what with this being Shoegaze Week here on DiS, we thought what better way than to round the whole thing off than by compiling the ultimate Mixtape for the genre.»
As part of our vague 2009 preview week this week, we thought it might be nice to catch up with some of our acts of last year and new acts we're excited about and ask them what they're looking forward to in 2009. This is what they said:»

DiS asked eight contributors to put together a ten track mix of favourite songs from 2008. Being awful nerds, they did so almost immediately... Plus we want to know: What's on your 2008 mixtape? »
Frightened Rabbit have had one hell of year, from touring with the likes of Death Cab for Cutie and Biffy Clyro, to their life-affirming album The Midnight Organ Fight finding itself at number 2 in our end of year list. DiS caught up with the notoriously timid guys to find out how 2008 was for them... »
We decree that 2008 belonged to the lone, computer-toting musician and a few good (guitar-wielding) people. Herein lie the records which we, the writers and regular readers, have spent the past twelve months lost in. These are the albums we found ourselves coming back to again and again... These are Drowned in Sound's 50 albums of 2008.»
Christmas is a-coming so we've taken a look at a selection of seasonal offerings from the likes of Glasvegas, The Raveonettes and lots lots more...sleigh bells at the ready.»

It's that time of year. DiS plunges its fearless critical balls into the icy waters of the festive singles glut, and emerges full of the joys of the season. Ish. Honestly, what would the baby Jesus think of some of this crap? Shaun The Sheep? Eeek»
The makers of our current Single of the Week, Frightened Rabbit, have heard awful things about Nottingham's knife crime. DiS calms them down to talk about their breakthrough debut album, Sing The Greys, and its follow-up, expected in March 2008»
