It's called 'Hawaiian Air' it's the second single from St Albans' DFA-gone-samba party-starters Friendly Fires' second album Pala, which is out a week on Monday. The album is glorious but this track, which is apparently the last one they recorded for the album, stands out from the rest of the record. It has that fizzy feeling of 'Paris' washed in sunshine and tropical textures. It's summer in a can, from one of the UK's most exciting bands for many years (in my opinion!) and you can stop reading my words about it and bash play... »

A Spotify playlist for one of our favourite festivals. Taking place beside-the-seaside in Brighton from the 12th of May until the 14th (or the earlier hours of the 15th if you wanna be pernickety about it), The Great Escape hosts bands of all shapes, sizes and synthiness. St Albans' finest ever act, Friendly Fires have announced a split single with remix specialist duo Holy Ghost!, with the added (but certainly not unique) twist that each band will cover the other's song. I remember NOFX did this once, possibly with Rancid or someone similiar.»
