It's easy to forget you’re en route to a music festival when you take the 140km coach ride south of Berlin, winding through acres of sunflower fields and wind farms before reaching the monumental steel city of Ferropolis. It's my second time here, and a»

Ace historical themed post-rockers iLiKETRAiNS are currently touring Europe with Editors. So excited about this were the Leeds outfit that they asked us if they could put together a tour diary for DiS with pictures and stuff. Naturally, we thought this to be a grand idea, so here's Part 1 of their jaunt... »

Even though there is nothing worse than those who indulge in stress-based or who-is-the-most-busy competitiveness, I still intend to make a vulgar bid for the throbbing-veined, red-eyed rosette today. You see, not only did I move house (and not one of those 3 taxi-loads, from one end of the borough to another affairs - I mean a Proper Move, cross-country, involving the help of VANS and BURLY MEN who seemed to think it appropriate to CAST ASPERSIONS on my sexyal REPUTATION). I also went to Paris and back, did a tax return, DJed at a five year old’s birthday party and bore the weight of the BIGGEST, most CRASHINGIEST writing deadline you ever did hear about. Oh, I has it so very very hard. And there is you, swanning about there in actual jobland in actual offices. AY ME.»

As a neat way to top and tail the Summer, this week I am back at the coastal caravan with my unfaithful old internot. This means three things; one, that I cannot check facts and therefore have to take the press releases at face value (which I am sure the music PRs will adore), two, that I cannot watch the videothings and make judgements upon which are fearfully offensive and which are not (this also means – woo! - the music must speak for itself, man), and three, that I Spy a cast-iron opportunity for making up some stuff that I can pretend I read but sadly cannot check for truthiness because ohdearmemydongleisbroken. Do see if you can spot the lies, damn lies and fiddled statistics, in the following reviews. »

Editors have come a long way since debut seven-inch ‘Bullets’ first landed on DiS’ doormat at the outset of 2005. Their two albums to date, The Back Room and An End Has A Start both achieved platinum status amidst a wealth of critical acclaim, while their live shows have regularly sold out around Europe in the process...»

To paraphrase Billy Piper, Latitude is pretty much honey to the b for the middle class legions of the DiS writing team, and thus it was in considerable numbers that we fell upon this year's edition of the idyllic Suffolk festival. Here are our reviewers' highlights.»

DrownedinSound's first singles round-up finds Anthony Hegarty flailing in Hercules & Love Affair's subdued leftfield house, dancing away his troubles like a bloated Gloria Estafan having forgotten her Fluoxetine. In a good way, though»

A week, just over, on and we’ve had time enough to let those Brit Award nominations sink in. Now we're wondering: who's actually going to win, and do we want them to? Here, the DiS office picks its ideal winners, and compares them to the favourites at the bookies. Snap? Rarely»

Tomorrow brings with it not only cloudier skies and cooler weather than we’ve been used to these past few weeks, but also the announcement of the winner of this year’s Nationwide Mercury Prize. You know: voted for by a panel of industry specialists (although we’ve not been invited to provide an opinion – what’s that about?), comes with a fat cheque and a skip-load of recognition, and was won by an American last year. Or, rather, an Englishman that’d not lived in England for many a year. Oooh, taste the controversy...»

Birmingham’s Editors have been compared to Echo & The Bunnymen or - sigh, how obvious? - Joy Division. Don’t be fooled. Sure, Editors have their earnest side but these are not gloomy men moping about in long coats. No sir.»
