Cyclefly formed in Cork, Ireland in 1995 as their formative groups Seventeen and Dogabone splintered. The band toured for two years within Ireland before relocating to the UK and starting work on their 1999 debut album, Generation Sap.

Taking their influences from such diverse sources as David Bowie, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Tool and The Smashing Pumpkins, the band toured the British islands with not a little fervour. They signed to Radioactive for their sophomore effot, Crave (2002).
