[Edit this profile]Born in London and raised in Paris, Charlotte Gainsbourg is the daughter of french singer / songwriter / provocateur Serge Gainsbourg and english actress / singer Jane Birkin.
Charlotte Gainsbourg is an accomplished actress. She made her motion picture début playing Catherine Deneuve's daughter in the 1984 film Paroles et musique. In 1986, she won a César Award for "Most Promising Actress" for L'effrontée and appeared in movies as diverse as La Petite Voleuse ( 1988 ), Merci la Vie ( 1991 ), Jane Eyre ( 1996 ) and La Bûche ( 2000 Cesar for Best Supporting Actress ).
She released her first album Charlotte for ever written by her father in 1984 with infamous father- daughter duet ‘Lemon Incest and then occasionnally came back to music : in 2001 she performed the spoken word introduction to Madonna's ‘What It Feels Like for a Girl; in 2004, she lent backing vocals to Badly Drawn Boy's 2002 album Have You Fed the Fish and in 2004 she sang a duet with French pop star Étienne Daho on his single ‘If.
in 2006, she made her great return to the music world with 5:55, enlisting Air's Jean-Benoît Dunckel and Nicolas Godin as composers, Jarvis Cocker and the Divine Comedy's Neil Hannon as lyricists, and Nigel Godrich as producer.
