[Edit this profile]Eventually settling in London. His studio experimentation gave birth to his debut album ‘Sounds of the Empire?' (Planet Mu, 1998), a largely electronic, critically-acclaimed album built upon a heady balance of samples and live sources that placed Capitol K at the forefront of the UK's electronic scene. The follow-up, 2002's 'Island Row' (XL Recordings) took inspiration from the musical conceptualisation of people and places from Robinson's past, as he sampled sounds from his childhood for another layer in his complex arrangements. Further still Capitol K’s single ‘Pillow' became Radio 1’s single of the week.
Capitol K has also gained a reputation for being a captivating live performer, recreating the sprawl of his albums with a mix of live and sampled sources; the expansion of the live element into a four-piece band led to the third album 'Happy Happy', a blend of live band and electronic studio tracks - this time all concise and vocal arrangements ?Ean off-the-wall pop album released through Kristian's own independent label 'Faith & Industry'. The label's previous releases include Patrick Wolf's 'Lycanthropy', which has a sound that owes a great deal to the years spent inside the Capitol K studio. Capitol K continues to live, work, produce and collaborate in East London.
