DiS meets Kele Okereke
One of this year's finest pop albums has come from the most unlikely of sources. Kele Okereke, a man who spent the previous decade in one of the UK's biggest indie bands Bloc Party, has embarked on a solo career and released his debut album The Boxer to c»
OLUGBENGA from Metronomy on World Music
I've had 'world music' on the brain recently. Travelling around playing Metronomy shows in different countries, I've noticed a common phenomenon in pretty much every hotel room I've stayed in - that of a supposedly regional MTV channel playing occasional »

So, in no particular order, here are the twenty acts DiS' editor is most looking forward to seeing this weekend. »
Drowned in Friday: Party? Drink? I'm in Love? TFI?
Yeah, THANK GOD/DOG/F*CK IT'S FRIDAY! It certainly was the easiest day to pick random tracks for which feature the name of the day in the title. In fact just searching for 'Friday Night' brings up a whole array of interpretations of "party night". Hopefully this playlist goes some way to summing up and soundtracking at least one part of your Friday night frolicking and if not, what says Friday to you? (comment below)»
This Week's Singles: 10/08/2009
Always on the look out for rare and bespoke ways in which to test out the sevens, this week I attempted Trial By Bicycle. So if you want to know which singles had me grinning despite slipping gears and arduous uphill mini-marathons, you have come to the right place. »
T In The Park: The (slightly delayed) DiS review
What with being a bunch of self-absorbed Sassenachs and the press pass being organised a bit last minute, we didn't get around to running Simon Jay Catling's review of T In The Park in any sort of timeframe likely to make anybody involved look professional. Sorry Simon! Sorry Scotland! Please don't hurt us.»

This Week's Singles: 27/04/09
Eh Oh, everyone, it is Monday, and it is time to listen to some sevens. And my, what a lovely bunch we have this week – from shamelessly retro post-punk which overcomes its redolence quite magnificently, an absolutely blinding re-issue from The Hundred In The Hands and, of course, space torpedoes, Girls Aloud.»
Eight Staff Mixtapes For '08
DiS asked eight contributors to put together a ten track mix of favourite songs from 2008. Being awful nerds, they did so almost immediately... Plus we want to know: What's on your 2008 mixtape? »
FAQ Part 2: How do I get my band reviewed/listed/profile updated?
work in progress - need to think about it In the previous part of this feature we told you how you can intern for DiS (and sites like ours) or become a contributor and you're never too late as we're still on the look out for both. However, in this part we aim to suggest the best things bands can do to help us discover you...»

It's October first... Happy Birthday to us! And now for an indulgent dose of nostalgia as DiS' founder looks back at previous incarnations of the site»
A Month in Records: August 2008
August, then: a month of festivals, and all that entails (mud, booze, excess, tiredness, sleep - usually in that order) - but also a pretty good time for album releases based on this little lot»
(Untitled)
The Sunday morning acidic hangover is here and so too is the rain but that's as good an excuse as any to delay braving the outdoors and run-down on day two at Reading. In the past few years Saturday at the Festival has established itself as the "i»

Label Focus #15: Moshi Moshi Records
With the label turning ten years old this year, DiS figured there was no better time than the present to touch base with Moshi Moshi Records - who've released records by Kate Nash, Friendly Fires, Hot Chip and more - for our latest Label Profile»
Let It Bleep: Dancefloor dishevelment, electronic emissions and bassbin bastardisations
DiS invites Adventures Close To Home's Will McGillivray into our warm, but slightly clammy, embrace to shoot the proverbial about the latest 12"s and remixes to make the dance world stop and take notice. Bassline, it seems, is the buzz word: don't make our man get Old Skool»

Iceland Airwaves 2007: the DiS review
Reykjavik is odd. It sits on top of the world in many respects: geography for one thing, as well as fashion, art and music. On the other hand, this town is bonkers. DiS's Rob Webb, Shain Shapiro and Gary Wolstenholme brave the cold, and booze prices, for the annual Airwaves festival»
Label Focus #10: Wichita Recordings
Rocking up the crest of their seventh birthday, DiS scribbler Gareth Dobson hacks away at the defences of Castle Wichita to reveal a set of rather contented innards, complete with tales of DFA1979 loss, guitar solos that never finished and why no-one got The Cribs for the first four years...»
Summercase 2007: the DiS review
DiS heads to Barcelona for the second time this year - following Primavera at the end of May - for Summercase. What we find: a drunk Lily Allen, a chilled-out Chemical Brothers, and some dodgy scotch...»
The Weekly DiScussion: our alternative Mercury list...
So the Mercury nominations for this year aren’t so bad, a couple of proper WTF examples aside (The View? Really? Come on…). However good this year’s nominations generally are, though, we at DiS got the old grey matter burning away to compile an alternative list of twelve that could have made the cut...»
Glastonbury '07: three DiSsers, some booze and hella mud...
It serves them right to suffer. While some of us sat scratching our arses from the comfort of our living rooms, occasionally pushing the red button to keep Jo Whiley at bay, some idiots actually went to Glastonbury. But we're not bitter. No. It would have been nice to have an invite, but that's all history now. Here, DiS’s Ben Patashnik, Joshua Cole and Georgina Terry attempt to fashion coherent narratives from their weekends of mud-soaked madness…»
The Weekly DiScussion: is the July 9 release of 'Hunting For Witches' insensitive?
On July 9, 2007, popular London-based indie-rock band Bloc Party will release 'Hunting For Witches'. That's the first Monday following the two-year anniversary of the London bombings which inspired it, i.e. on the first-available release date. Which leads this DiS writer to ponder: is this a cheap, sensationalist move, or does the release serve as a reminder that so little has changed since the attacks...»

It does precisely what it says in the title: this is the DiS guide to some of the finest records coming your way in the first quarter of 2007. January, February and March: each will bear witness to some ace-o-rama releases, and here are just some of them...»
DiS is 6: Our 66, the top six
You’ve waited, we’ve waited. At times we daren’t hold our breath just in case, by fair means or foul, our final top six – the records below – were somehow prevented from coming to public attention. Yet here we are: the conclusion of Our 66...»
V Festival: the DiS preview
One of the true big boys amongst the ever-growing festival throng, V Festival is almost upon us. This weekend, teenagers and thirty(plus)-somethings alike will converge on the festival’s twin sites – one in Chelmsford, the other in Staffordshire – to drink expensive warm lager while the dulcet tones of Sandi Thom, James Morrison and Lily Allen aid their gentle drift to a wonderful plane of serenity…»
Camden Crawl 2006
The Camden Crawl™ is an incessant pitch of desperate dreams and stained ale teeth; a rotter’s journey to the centre of the Dublin Castle [indie development hell] that celebrates punctuality and order over diminished responsibility and leather jackets. A playground for the sensible band warrior, offering Joe Punter the opportunity to see all his favourite junior artists in one long stretch, over a concrete path of Converse-tread doom. »

(Untitled)
This week is another exciting and important one in the history of the music we believe in. As it stands, Bloc Party’s debut album ‘Silent Alarm’ is about to go top 5, nay, top 3 in the album chart proper. And yeah, it’s had great press and great support from radio and TV. Of course this is all very exciting and we believe, deserved. But what COULD happen now is even more exciting.»

Introducing Bloc Party
Kids growing up on a diet of ‘OK Computer’ and Smashing Pumpkins, regressing through dark ‘80s British post punk, a desire to constantly change, to be true to their art yet still create what are basically pop songs. “The Rapture are a good band with good songs,” they voluntarily tell DiS, “it’s just a bit scary the way that sort of thing is popular just now..."»
The Toilet Circuit Diaries #2: Jim Bob, Karmakops, Drat, Bloc Party
