I am
If you're on a small indie you won't have got any advance or anything to keep your belly off your backbone, so it all helps for a bit of extra income. The initial outlay is £100 though, so it's only financially worthwhile if you're sure you'll get some radio play (a lot of venues pay a PRS license too, so you might as well get your cut of this). Also they can help you with any wrangles over songwriting credits, royalties etc if you register the songs with them.
cheers...
we're a long way off ever being played on radio but (i doubt they'd play us) but it's usefult to know.
Is this the same as a publishing deal?
Or is that different?
Different
A publishing deal means that the publishing company will administer you royalties in the same way as the the PRS, but they'll also exploit the songs for you (secure you sync deals etc), which PRS won't. Obviously they're out to make a profit from those songs too, which the PRS isn't.
cheers for responses
you've been helpful
The Fog Band
could have got royalties for radio play. But it would have cancelled itself out after we'd paid the PRS fee!
radio play is different as they used to just take sample days
as it was impossible to process every song that was played every day on every radio station, so chances are you wouldn't have got anything anyway.
it's worth joining as it's only a one off fee anyway...
I was informed that we stood to claim about 150 quid
but its 100 to join so.........
really? maybe that new system is working then...
to be honest it's worth joining at the earliest possible moment. because you can also get royalties from PLAYING YOUR OWN SONGS AT YOUR OWN GIGS....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! if people pay to get in.
Join, if you have any confidence in your own success.
I see a FIFTY POUIND PROFIT and MAYBE MORE in your future Bobby...
I DJed your single last night at the 586 gig, does that count?
You did? Cheers buddy! Which track?
Oh and that'll be £25 quid (mates rates), please...
