Anyone staying up for it?
Anyone think Khan's got a chance?
Tough fight for Khan, I think he's technically much better than he use to be and has very fast hands, but the weight difference might prove a problem.
And Alvarez is a good boxer.
Think Khan can do it but he'll need to find something special.
I like Khan, think he's a good guy!
Obviously they'll carry it differently.
I really like Khan too, seems a decent guy but he's been found out by far lower calibre power-punchers than Alvarez, and only Mayweather's ever beaten him
Also got a soft spot for any ginger elite sportspeople
last time they managed to get him on the scales on fight night he'd got back up to 175lbs. makes career middleweights look small.
yeah, i really like amir. one of my mates from school used to box with his brother haroon (who was by all accounts a bit of a turd) and amir put loads of money into boxing in bolton and is supposed to be a really good dude.
nope, might box canelo up for a few rounds, will get caught and stopped at some point. some bollocks on him taking a fight like this though, thought he was going to see his career out fighting algieri level opponents.
He's fought 11 world champions. Very rarely in a dull fight, and his style means he can soak up the odd defeat, even if stopped brutally. It's weird how he's loved nowhere near as much as other British fighters.
Not sure he can win tonight, but then i didn't think he could beat Maidana. Canelo's deceptively quick and has shown a different level of intelligence since the Maweather defeat. Ultimately i think the gulf in weight will be too much.
Alvarez by stoppage, 7-9, possibly with a body shot.
he's a proud muslim and a lot of the anti-Amir sentiment is thinly veiled racism. Ask anyone to explain why they 'hate Amir' and their answers are weak as shit.
wish i could stay up for this one
Don't think it's a case of Islamophobia specifically, but i've always got the impression that most British people think of him as a Pakistani primarily, which is pretty sad. I've heard people try to argue it's a personality thing, but he comes across better than most young boxers, and he's a good role model. If he beats Alvarez that's an infinitely more impressive achievement than Fury beating a 39-year-old Klitschko. Unless his career falls off a cliff he has to be considered an all time great of British boxing.
at the MEN. His reaction was half cheering from his fans/neutrals, and half booing from meatheads. it was disgusting, and the atmosphere around the place was pretty grim.
We are now at a point where 61% of the Uk have a negative view of Islam (YouGov, Jan, 2015) and only 22% believe western society and Islam are compatible its no surprise that some people arnt willing to get behind Khan. Or for that matter why the Tories hedged the bets with the ridiculous propaganda against mayor Khan.
but naseem was more loved than hated and he seemed to be a pretty awful fella.
Khan has never done anything as cool as this...
i mean he's obviously a big deal round here but in the wider boxing conversation he's drifted into joke territory occasionally. think people have a hard time with chinny fighters generally, like being hard is more important than being good. find it more impressive that he's got to this point in a career with such a big disadvantage myself.
also the Olympic gold probably put expectations so high that he was bound to be considered a disappointment by a lot of people
of the early rounds. Worth a quid. I went for round 2.
good luck though
Going to hit the sack after the Crolla fight, but don't want to wake up too late and miss it or too early and nod back off. I've read 4am, 4:30am and 5am.
i've asked my missus to wake me between 4-5 if she's up with the baba
So I don't think it'll start before 4, and could well be closer to 5.
Delboy's back in the big league!
quite an engaging fight too, thought he was gonna bottle it when he was kicking off with the ref halfway through but he fought all twelve rounds. just doesn't have the skill to hang around with pulev or the tank to keep it dirty for long enough stretches.
someone important must have bet on a split decision cause that card is laughable.
any good places to watch fights in full the next day? got £5 each on 3rd & 7th round stoppages
there are ways to do it in browser but you'll end up seeing the result first.
that was fun, some shit or bust fighting from barrosso. great planning, great execution from crolla.
he went out to 3/1 after 3 rounds. didn't fucking go for it. fight to end by stoppage was evens! had that for 20 quid.
i don't remember why it wasn;t made the last time it was talked up. i dunno if crolla needs it, tbh from what i've seen flanagan's not really caught on in manchester yet, certainly not like crolla has. my brother went to the zepeda fight last year and said it wasn;t full and a bit dead. i don;t think he's had that performance to put him over properly yet.
Sickening knockout. Credit to Khan for taking the fight and doing so well while he lasted but it was a bit of a pointless spectacle. I hope Garcia doesn't manage to weasel his way out of a rematch - I can see this Khan winning that.
Surely Canelo can't duck GGG now?
I think he'll have three of four more and call it a day. Thurman should obviously be avoided. Guess the obvious fight is Garcia given he's the mandatory, but he could go for someone like Porter and then Vargas. Spence Jr is probably the most interesting fight, or he could even go after Andrade, Charlo or Lara at 154. Then there's obviously Smith and Brook.
boxed really well up to there, glad he got up and seemed to be pretty lucid afterwards. wanna see him get a lower world level fighter and then ramp up to the brook fight now.
I think the body shots gradually wore him down
I would have thought that Khan might have learned his lesson from trying to trade with sluggers like Garcia a few years ago, but apparently not. (didn't watch the fight though).
fucking love Canelo <3
canelo's just that good at setting people up... he was throwing huge power right hooks to the body from the outset, so many that on occasion it looked a bit desperate when khan would pop him two or three times and circle out in response. as soon as khan started covering the body when canelo wound up for the big shot he just went upstairs and sparked him. might even have been the first big overhand he threw all night. he's a bloody clever fighter.
Thought he showed real intelligence - like Floyd Jr. without the sneakiness / cowardice.
Canelo simply cannot beat GGG, his movement has improved but he has no deep undrestanding of footwork, he only swings, and GGG can take a few hits. GGG to win in the 7th by KO.
I like Khan a lot, but Mayweather made Canelo look very, very average. That punch would've knocked Mayweather out, but Mayweather would never, ever have been caught by that punch.
Still think Khan was much, much better value than most expected.he was worth the points lead he had before that careless, fatal mistake, no?
was that Khan would use his jab and speed well, be up on points then get sparked as soon as he let his guard down for a second at some point in the middle rounds
