my GF's played against 4 (four) of the current England squad.
Nigeria - Sweden was great
yah boo sucks
but the standard of OFFICIATING has been fucking atrocious, like, unbelievably bad. video ref trial would fit perfectly in a tournament like this #sexist
makes Pardew's look like a nose splayer. Very disappointing.
but that 'penalty' yesterday. Jesus!
pretty much all great goals, but girls, mon, get those challenges in, if you keep backing off like that you're gonna condede against the best teams.
and they weren't guaranteed a carpet burn for every slide tackle they'd be diving in more
or at the very least, a team threatening to leave the pitch
or a big fight
Alves STAYING at Barcelona
Just two little tidbits broken to you by ITK Tone here on drownedinsound.com in the last week or so
and I haven't seen any sliced knees thus far, so like I think ohgood(?) said the other day, it seems to be the same astro-turf that NFL use
the goalie did two-foot the attacker in the groin, which would be ILLEGAL eg in a shopping centre
If I've got that right?
and i am in such a huff
and am having a re-think
we're not coming back
After a long wait the day has finally come, and we shall challenge the mighty Spain. Hopefully we can repeat the upset we caused at the last CONCACAF Women’s Championship when we trounced Mexico, beat Trinidad & Tobago on penalties and sneaked into the final.
Newly appointed manager Amelia Valverde is confident: "[we are] a team that will fight for 90 minutes. On the field we have the ball down, combine and use speed has given us results. We must dare and hope to get a very good match"
Players to look out for: captain, PSG superstar and playmaker Shirley Cruz, and 15-year old Gloriana Villalobos
9 PM kick off, live on the BBC website
Just tweets gossip https://twitter.com/Redknapp/status/608222929004863489
and then everyone replies saying 'triffic tweet' 'triffic player' etc
or do BT know something we don't know
He's too good.
I always forget the building anxiety and, so often, crushing disappointment the summer brings.
there's also a brilliant bit on Mediawatch today about his tweets from yesterday
Not sure we'll get a keeper anymore, talk of a striker was always a bit fanciful unless Walcott doesn't sign da ting and defence/midfield are pretty well stocked so think we'll be busier shifting the likes of Podolski, Campbell, Flamini than bringing anybody in.
We'll get some sort of holding midfielder to compete with Coquelin and then presumably a diminutive attacking midfielder who doesn't want to play on the wing, but that's about it.
Just have to get used to the fact that if it's a really big name the chances are they're using us to leverage for a better deal elsewhere. Always the case.
unless you're a massive sexist
been trying to think who the +£30m mega-signing might be this summer, but there don't seem to be any likely candidates (bar the Higuain-types who seem to spend their entire careers 'unsettled')
starting the season after next. Hopefully could be a positive move in terms of atmosphere and ticket prices, etc.
he defo wants to go to arsenal and we're obviously happy to take him for the £10m or so it'd cost, seems like he's trying to get abramovich to 'do the decent thing' or w/e (been reference to some sort of 'gentleman's agreement' between them i think).
Don't really care that much cos gk is the most boring position by far, but as end of season shite goes i'll take it.
But yeah i'm so chill about this window it's nice
- "Gazza, if your health holds up, would TV punditry be something you'd keen on doing more of? Considering how many grey ex footballers we get, you'd definitely add something to any line up."
- "I don’t know if I’d be good at it...And if a game isn’t good, I’d want to switch off after 15 minutes to watch the Discovery Channel. Sometime I think about it, and I did the World Cup 98 - Links is very good; Shearer is very good and Andy Townsend is very good - but sometimes I think, nah, you have to watch hundreds of games and know all the stats, so don’t worry about it."
"Once Dino Zoff said Blatter was coming. He wanted us on time in the Lazio suit. I turned up 30 minutes later in a Santa Claus outfit. I sat next to Blatter and said: “Hello, I’m Santa, ho, ho, ho.”
Think he's more likely to just pick up a couple of decent players that he thinks he can develop and save the WARCHEST for if/when Madrid go mental again and try to sell Benzema
Pre-Emirates Wenger wasn't totally averse to swooping was he? Wiltord etc.
What he really needs to do is work out which position will be hit by an improbable amount of injuries mid-season and overstock it.
Does he? I mean I hope so, because he'd be a great signing, but aside from those quotes about not wanting to move his family it's just media guesswork isn't it? Plus he'd have to move anyway if he signed for us, unless he fancies commuting from Cobham to St Albans every day.
"But to score the way I did against Scotland in the European Championships in your own country at Wembley against my mates - and to knock it over Colin Hendry’s head and into the bottom corner - was fantastic. That one stands out. I got loads of stick before the tournament as I was playing up there - which I had to put with for months - so it was a nice feeling when I went back to Rangers. It was all good fun. I saw Colin later in London and I said to him: “Colin, what are you doing here, I thought I left you at Wembley.” He said: “Gazza, don’t mention it.”
bearing in mind he's with cech in the national squad rn
We don't need the big clear-out the media's been desperately bigging up for most of the year now, but we do need to make 2-4 key signings in midfield and defence. Our recent record in the market is so poor though that I have very little faith in our DoF getting the business done, and indeed it already looks like he's happily lowering our pants for Raheem Sterling having bought Liverpool's bullshit about a gentlemanly understanding once Hammez went the other way. I think we're going to wind up with two Ross Barkleys, with Yaya phoning in another season as a result.
Hope that all SPFL teams follow suit
“You have to be the best all-round players for Rangers and I love you, but I’ve just heard your dad is a Catholic and want him to die. But by the way, any chance of an autograph.”
(on paper at least) to Real and Bayern, and failing to bring in the kind of quality we want. There are so few players that level in either the CB, CM or striker roles that I think were bound to come up massively short in at least one area...
I also think a massive problem last year with Falcao and Di Maria was signing them too late in the window, and don't want us jumping on the Real Madrid fire sale at the 11th hour.
What's the word for when they sell slightly bent players for well over the odds to a host of desperate and deluded bidders?
think the last one pegs it though: https://www.aviva.co.uk/form/ncfc-goal-of-the-month/
Jones to Bayern
think he'd happily jump ship for them or PSG
does convincingly flappy impressions of him too
their manager looks like ronnie moore
Is showing England cricket rather than England Women Football
Really crisp passing around the area. England pretty limited tbh.
and could also swim faster than a shark
and having megadollars to spend again as a result. Is that the case?
Seems you were leading the way for Pogba for a bit, but if Barcelona stick their noses in that'll be that. The efficiency with which Real, Barca and Bayern hoover up the truly exciting talent is pretty dull.
Messi doesn't pay tax
sub-conference levels, tbh
Refreshing to see players only going down when they're actually hurt
turgid shite. France are pretty decent though
to see them turn in the kind of guts and glory performance that means they only lose 1-0 to a technically superior side whilst ensuring nobody involved enjoys it.
We *think* we've bypassed it by rewriting all the important player's contracts so their technical salaries are relatively moderate but their bonuses are immense. Cue Platini gleefully shifting the goalposts again. However, it seems with the new TV money and the loosening of the rules it's unlikely to make much of a difference either way.
And yeah, that's just the way it is. Everyone would love to have him in their side, but those three have got the entire market stitched up. Just got to hope one of them slips up catastrophically somewhere down the line.
the lack of a final ball is really frustrating.
costa rica knock it around really nicely but appear to have no clue how to fashion a chance
...and still think he has potential to be one of our most important players, albeit with a more solid, physical midfield around him and a decent defence in place.
He's not strictly speaking a £60m player, but it's not like there are a host of game changing world class players waiting to join us.
He definitely doesn't want to be there though so fuck him off if someone comes in and we can avoid a financial hit. Depay will add an option on the left of an attacking three if that's where Di Maria was supposed to play (given Van Gaal obviously has no intention of ever using him centrally again after the Leicester match)
