Jerry Maguire
Bought this for £3 the other day, on the strength of me realising I'm a big fan of Tom Cruise (Risky Business, Rain Main, Collateral and forgetting all his shit ones) and on everyone telling me how great it was; I also seem to remember it doing well critically.
Wow - shocking.
You'd think it would be difficult to make a film that was centred around "doing the right thing" so morally bankrupt, but Cameron Crowe achieved exactly that.
It may well be the case that he discovers how to be a great guy, but still at the centre of it all is a sneaky business aimed at making him into a millionaire. It's made out that sports agency carries some kind of philanthropic cause and that we're supposed to be bothered when one of his clients gets rid of him.
I was quite wary because of Almost Famous, which again is a film I struggled to not cringe at, despite having never heard a bad word said of it. But this took it to another level.
