Does anyone thinks that western society is approaching an endgame? (lunchtime thoughts thread)
i don't mean in an embarassing 'the economy is in a trough, civilsation will end tomorrow' way like creakyknees, more that like...the way we live collectively no longer matches what we need. technological advancements have happened so quickly in the past two generations that theres too much dead nothing in our populace.
20% of the population at least aren't needed, and that's gonna keep going up. all the new jobs are just for supervisors, and supervisors supervising supervisors. like look how quickly machines can make clothes, package things and so on compared to how long it took a person to do it 100 years ago. soon we won't need barstaff or waiters; one supervisor can manage problems whilst a robot with an ID card reader and pupil scanner checks ID and takes drinks. an ex-girlfriend of mine had a problem where her eye twitched a little bit, but she didn't drink alcohol anyway.
you get me?
