London whinge thread
So I've lived in London for a year now and whilst some of it is amazing, some of it really sucks. I need to get a few of these things off my chest:
1) The Dalston/Hoxditch lot. I know this is a standard complaint, but I'm not annoyed about the usual things people get annoyed by (their fashion and music preferences, for example, really don't bother me). I'm more shocked about how wealthy and privileged so many of them are. It seems like 75% of the people I've hung out with in those areas don't work/have never worked and don't seem fazed by horrendous rents and drinks prices because they're funded by the bank of mum and dad. They spend all their time partying or running some sort of blog/magazine/band which never makes any money. The fact that the musical heart of this country is run by a load of ultra-priviledged upper class kids is pretty upsetting.
2) The fact that a substantial number of people are expected to live in London on minimum wage. This is insane. No wonder some of the worst poverty in this country is in Tower Hamlets and Newham. I still can't quite believe that the London Living Wage isn't a legal requirement for all businesses.
3) The mind-boggling wealth. Places like Knightsbridge just hurt my head. My understanding of what "rich" means has completely changed since moving down here.
Whinge over.
