Cost fright of the proms
So it's school leavers season, and various schools up and down the country are having a bash to celebrate. Every year the papers tut and harp on about it's becoming more Americanised and complain people are spending too much on it. Case in point:
I want to know what you did to mark the end of your school life.
When I left school (2005) we had a 'prom', though I think we called it a leaver's ball, where the boys wore cheap dinner jackets and the girls wore OTT dresses. Me and some mates (about 8 guys and 2 girls) took a stretch hummer there (I know) and it was held in a hotel in Cardiff Bay - booked under a random name, since apparently our school was blacklisted from many places due to previous bad behaviour. It was a very pleasant evening though, many teachers were there happily drinking with us, there was a good meal, awards were given (second most likely to be prime minister, yes!) and everyone went home happy.
