While we're all getting excited about playing against Libertines fans in their drainpipes and trilby hats, first we have to deal with this little matter at hand. Churchfields are a 5-a-side team that for this occasion have expanded to a proper 11-a-side. My understanding is that they have 10 regulars, complemented with a few ringers. I only know their captain, who is a lumbering forward in the bamos tradition, prone to long-distance attempts at goal and a fair bit of goalhanging towards the end of the game. I have my suspicions who one of the ringers might be, and if I'm right we will be facing a pretty good Iniesta-style midfielder as well.
For this game I have lined up our favourite referee, so expect the usual running commentary (good header, nice block, etc.) and positive demeanor from him. As always with international friendlies, bring your shinpads and practice those throw-ins.
As far as other friendlies are concerned, apart from the Libertines, we may have a rematch against The National (before their Sunday League season starts again) as well as a trip to Brighton in November, to coincide with another "special event".
The usual blurb:
- we play on a full-sized astro-turf pitch
- there are spanking new changing rooms and toilet facilities
- 5 min walk from Archway tube station (Northern line)
- 1 min walk from Upper Holloway train station (Barking - Gospel Oak line)
- Buses 17, 43 and 271 all stop at Upper Holloway train station
- arrive at 3:30 PM for warm-up, tactics discussion, pre-match fags, team pictures, etc.
- kick-off at 4 PM sharp
- full 2 x 45 minutes and injury time + 15 min break
- normal FA rules, but with rolling subs
- shirt colour to be confirmed (but most likely blue)
- final team selection will be announced on Thursday
- 6 pounds each will be collected on the day
- post-match analysis in the Landseer pub on Landseer Road (5 mins walk away)
You know the drill by now: sign up below if you want to be considered for selection. Applications from specialists (i.e. goalkeepers) will be viewed favourably.
