Getting fucked over at work
Long story short: a particular project hasn't quite worked as expected, partly due to some differences of opinion - a shame, but no biggie really.
Anyway, the issue is that my manager has totally passed the buck to me for it not coming off, which is ridiculous. Basically said that I had to be more mindful of how to engage with colleagues in other teams, to make sure we collaborate as effectively as possible, understand everyone's perceptions etc. To which I say, okay, but I did do that, so what specific thing should I have done differently? To which I receive a generic rambling response saying it's not about specific things, just an `awareness` and `commitment` to constructive working together, which is to say empty platitudes that anyone would agree with.
I'm basically really pissed about my spineless manager and the manager of another unit agreeing to write it off as something I need to learn from without being able to provide any substance to it.
But is it worth doing anything about it? My only option would be to complain to my manager's manager, who is likely to prove as evasive and uninterested in facts as my own manager is, which will not endear me to either of them and will probably damage an otherwise adequate working relationship. And the work issue itself is already complete history?
But then I think about it and just get furious at the principle of it. I'm certain that this is unjust and that an independent mediator type would agree with me, but it's just not going to be worth it is it? I'm going to have eat shit on this, the curse of being relatively young/junior and having senior management who are wankers.
What would you do? Also who else has been shafted by their boss?
