If you saw a severely injured pigeon on a busy high street, what would you do?
I was just walking a busy high street on my way to get some lunch, and I saw a pigeon that was hopping around on one leg. The other leg was broken, as was one of its wings.
There were lots of people walking round it, stepping over it etc. It was clearly scared, but wasn't able to move out the way and was just sort of stumbling around. When I came back past about 15 minutes later it was still there.
Obviously, the pigeon is going to die. It can hardly move, so it's not going to be able to look after itself, find food, water etc. It's also very hot today, so the pigeon is likely to have a long, drawn-out, suffering death from either starvation or dehydration (whichever comes first).
In this situation, what would you do? I, like everyone else, just walked past, and here I am back at my desk while the pigeon is probably still just hobbling around waiting to die.
I wanted to do something, but i'm not sure what. Killing it would have been the humane thing to do, but doing on the high street would have been a bit inappropriate, and aside from ripping its head off (or stomping on it) i'm not sure how else i'd go about it. Both of these would also be quite messy.
