Are there really people, and by people I mean fully grown adults (physically, if not mentally), say above the age of 25, who think it's acceptable to talk during a film at the cinema?
Well I'll answer that question: yes. Or so it would seem, based on my experience last Friday night, in which four women entered the cinema 15 minutes into the film (not the ads, not the trailers, 15 minutes into the actual film - so we're talking like 40 minutes after the scheduled start time). As they entered, they were talking and laughing at full volume. They took their seats, and continued to talk at full volume, clearly paying little attention to the film itself.
After probably about 47 dirty looks from various patrons I got up (hero, I know) and walked over to them and suggested that if they wanted to talk, perhaps they could fuck off and do it somewhere else? That received sneers and the nonsensical suggestion that /I/ should just pay attention to the screen instead of bothering them. I told them to fuck off again and sat down.
Despite the unpleasantness, their conversational volume and duration reduced by about 95% for the rest of the screening (much to the unspoken gratitude of the rest of the patrons I'm sure). I felt slightly bad for swearing, but I don't have time to quietly and slowly reason with people while the film continues on (and without further disrupting other patrons), so it was a useful and effective accelerant in this case.
Anyway, what the fuck is wrong with these people? Who doesn't know that you don't talk through a movie?
