Thursday Football Thread.
Madrid stick five past APOEL to clinch what should be a cracking semi-final with Bayern Munich.
Chelsea do just enough to edge Benfica. Truth be told, the Portuguese were marginally the better side in both legs, but Chelsea have vast experience in the competition, and six successive semi-finals is an achievement in itself. Nice of Raul Meireles to do something.
Owen Coyle named Manager of the Month.
Dirk Kuyt facing Anfield exit.
The standard "United being linked with £100m of players just as their season tickets for next year are due to be announced" spiel begins.
TP wants Matt Jarvis.
Newcastle chasing Barnsley captain, looking at Burnley's Jay Rodriquez. Alan Carr's dad's their main scout, right? Think he used to be one of our scouts in the 80s when we signed an unbelievable amount of junk from the second division.
Berbaflop to Gala?
Juve to offer £40m for Tevez.
Ole Solskjaer to Wolves? Don't do it, man.
Slaven Bilic throws his name into the ring for the Spurs job. Would be weird them having a likeable manager, imho. The Telegraph say they want draw merchant Antonio Conte. Realisically, it'll be Moyes or Rodgers.
Tonight's action includes the second legs of the Europa League quarters (for me, a more exciting competition than the Champions League this year, and certainly nothing to do with the temporary inclusion of the two biggest clubs in England). Bilbao host Schalke (Channel 5), AZ visit Valencia (ITV4), Atletico Madrid go to Hannover (ESPN), and Sporting Lisbon travel to Metalist Kharkiv. All four home sides to progress, probably. All-Spanish finals in both Euro cups?
