Have we had a thread about the Woman in Black? I saw it tonight by accident...
Wanted to see Carnage but there was a problem with the auditorium where they were showing it and the Woman in Black started at the same time...
Anyway, first off I was staggered by how many people were in there. I know it's Valentine's Day but I'd envisaged the film to be a mid-level success and by the looks of things (plus my subsequent reading of an article the box office for the weekend) it's way more popular than I expected.
The film itself is good. It's clearly aspiring to be film in the same vein as the Orphanage and the Others, which are two films I love, and it doesn't quite have the emotional punch of those two but it's effectively creepy, has plenty of jumps and the story works pretty well. Radcliffe is solid - it's not a performance that marks him out as one of the greatest acting talents of his generation but it does prove he's a decent leading man who can carry a film away from Harry Potter. So, yeah, I liked it all in all.
Do feel my attempts to see Carnage are cursed though - this is the second time I've tried and failed... Last time I got a phone calling me in for emergency cover at my college when I was literally on the cinema steps.
