First Class
so I'm on a train returning from Birmingham New Street, sitting in First Class; on my way back from ATP, the conductor inexplicably took my bag off the train, and I found out that it was being held in lost property. rather than pay the extortionate courier fee or train fare, I complain, and the nice lady in complaints arranges a free ticket to get it back, in First Class to make up for all the fuss.
I feel ill at ease. I figure I'd feel the same in an expensive restaurant. I can't rest knowing that the 'host' is at my service. there's something uncomfortable to me about benefitting from servility.
I appreciate that it's just a job, but I don't like feeling as if I'm somehow artificially elevated in status. I'm fine with regular service, in cheaper places, in hospitals, in shops or whatever, but this...
it's a 'working class' issue, right? maybe I'd feel different if my bootstraps were involved.
