Let's all make up really bad TV shows
BORN TO DIY: Jumping on the bandwagon of cult shows set in the recent past (Mad Men, This is England, er.. Pan Am), this 32-part drama chronicles the rise of Changing Rooms in the mid to late 1990s. This series is co-written by Jimmy McGovern and Ken Loach, and therefore tackles the BIG ISSUES - murder, rape, abortion, child abuse, drug addiction, and habitually listening to Freed from Desire 629 times a day, all of which are committed by Handy Andy incognito as various members of Rude Dog and the Dweebs. However, there are also more light-hearted - in fact, every episode corresponds to a participant at the 1998 World Cup finals, the Paraguay episode where Carol Smillie frolicks with Latin gigolos is one all the family can enjoy - and there's even a chance to see Tony Blair when he was popular in the Tunisia episode, "Camels and Pyramids.. and like Girl Power and Bang on the Door Pencil Cases 'N' Stuff." The NME funds Lana Del Rey to shamelessly cash in on this to provide a chronologically irrelevant soundtrack.
