football spin-off thread: Premier League Player of 2011 (bar David Silva)...
To make it moderately interesting we'll have to do it excluding Silva, pretty sure he'd get at least 95% of the votes, irrespective of who folks who answer support. Bar the standout player in England, who do you think have been the best over the calendar year?
I asked this question to a mate of mine, his top five were Gareth Bale (distinctly average this season), Phil Jones (four or five good games for United), Scott Parker (the kid played for West Ham, ffs, and got relegated), Luis Suarez (Eh?) and Nani (fucking Nani!). What an absolute douche.
I think mine would be as follows...
5) Luka Modric - Spurs best (probably only world class) player, despite all the hoopla. Could play for any side in world football and stand out.
4) Vincent Kompany - the top centre-half in England by a street. Makes defending look easy (except in friendlies such as the Community Shield).
3) Jose Enrique - gone from unfancied at Newcastle to the best left-back in Europe. Makes you wonder why the big clubs weren't in for him. Shits all over the likes of Cole, Evra, others.
2) Yaya Toure - won the Cup on his own, African footballer of the year, truly dominant, a great addition to the Premier League.
1) Robin van Persie - has become the number one striker in England, the difference between Arsenal being in the running for a Europa League place and battling the drop. A Mancheter City benchwarmer in the making.
Feel free to name one, three, five, whatever...
