What wage can you live on in that London?
Hi. I know similar-style threads have been done before, but I'm not having much joy finding them, so I'll lay out some specifics here and see what you guys think.
I've been looking for a new job for a while, and was very pleased yesterday to be offered an interview next month for a reporting job in London. It's a similar sized paper to where I am now, the roles are similar but it's a better news patch, and even though I was considering leaving news I think it could be a good change. However, in the email, they also made clear the salary, which they hadn't in the advert - £17,500. I don't consider myself to earn a huge amount now, but I earn more than that.
I'm sure people will have tales of living in a cool flat in Regent Street on £14,000 or something crazy, but do you think that's manageable? I'm not great with money, and my gut instinct is that it isn't (for me). I feel like I should interview anyway, for the experience if nothing else, but do you think the job is a write-off? Should the fact I'm desperate to move to London overwrite any money concerns?
