Origins of pub names
This is quite interesting. I saw a couple on countdown earlier.
Apparently 'bishop's finger' was originally only a pub in Kent as it was named after the white finger on a post that pointed pilgrims in the right direction to Canterbury.
'The jolly sandboys' apparently the sand boys used to get a free ale when delivering sand for the pub floors and they were always half cut so were hence known as the jolly sandboys.
Any more?
Shit thread?
