Johann Hari's 'How to survive the age of distraction' piece
I don't suppose a week goes by without some new article about how the Internet is rewiring our brains and crippling our attention-spans, but this is the most eloquent and resonant piece I've read on the matter
Couldn't relate to what he's saying any more, I'm actually shocked by my own attention-span and lack of 'mindfulness' recently - I even find it a struggle to watch films because I'm so used to having more than than one stream of input at any one time.
Realised on Friday when I had to walk a route that I'd taken via bus every weekday for 5 months that I couldn't actually find my way home because I'd simply never looked out the window - ironically had to use my phone to get up a map
So yeh, I'm trying to make a concerted effort to haul my ass into the real world a bit more - the line '...a sense of endless online connection that leaves you oddly disconnected from yourself.' is uncomfortably true right now
