Thursday Gaming Thread
Hmmm... so, big releases of the week are Child of Eden (Xbox Kinect) and Duke Nukem Forever (Multi). The first has been getting great reviews, saying it's pretty much amazing, the latter... slightly more varied ones. There have been a few 7s and 8s but Eurogamer weighed in with a 3 and the Metacritic average was around the 50% mark yesterday. I guess when 4 different publishing houses work on a game for a decade using an engine even older than that, the results aren't spectacular eh?
Zelda 64 is being rereleased this week. The touch screen makes shifting between items great apparently and so far reviews have been great as you'd expect for the game generally voted as the Best Ever. Whether or not that's largely due to nostalgia I can't say, but I'd love to replay it one day soon. Though I only played it for the first time anyway about 5 years back.
Lots of websites releasing more info about Wii U. There have been lots of behind closed doors previews of the tech and a few more things are emerging - these things are pretty nailed down:
1. Developers are at least SAYING its good kit and that it'll give them loads of options.
2. It won't upscale Wii games.
3. It won't be compatible with anything other than Wiimote Plus controls, so you'll have to get the £20 add on units.
4. Its graphics card would appear to be better than both the one in the Xbox and PS3.
5. It will likely only support one of those big screen controllers per console.
Details are still sketchy but time will tell what it's going to be like I guess. One thing I did read that was interesting was why Japan will love it and disown Kinect.
I suspected it to be out of loyalty, but it is more down to the space issues apparently. Most Japanese flats and houses are pretty small, so people don't have room to play Kinect or even have a second TV. So this should mean it'll be a big hit with those gamers growing older who have to share their TVs with someone else.
Not much else to report. I'm slightly regretting playing Sin & Punishment 2 on Medium difficulty. It's bastard hard, though I have struggled through and after taking 2 hours to kill one fucker on Monday and now on the final boss. Who is predictably EVEN harder.
Anyhow, I'll say it again - BUY IT.
I also really want my copy of Goldeneye back that I lent out. I really loved that game...
What are you up to?
