Is it better to take a job you don't want and are going to quit soon after starting or go unemployed?
I lose my job in four weeks and next week I have an interview for something I really don't want to do. It may just about match my pay for my current job (it's a pay band so I don't know where they'll put me but if it doesn't I won't take it anyway) but the job sounds utterly soul-destroying, I've no interest whatsoever in the industry I'd be working in and it's in a location that's not wildly easy to get too. I'd need to be desperate to take it but I probably am desperate.
The thing is if I take this job I am basically going to be looking to quit for something else from day one (well, probably from the minute I accept it in fact) so on the one hand I'm scared about being unemployed and unable to afford my rent but on the other hand I'm guessing the fact I'm applying for jobs having just started one isn't going to be a high point on my CV and might put off other employers.
Am I better off taking the job and making the best out of a bad situation so I can pay the bills or being honest with both them and myself, saying it isn't for me and risking unemployment?
Any thoughts and/or experiences would be welcomed.
