How do you define yourself politically?
Inspired by something TheWza said in the David Cameron thread about *declaring yourself to a Tory* and *bluey’s-to-be* and how it’s a myth that everyone but CG is a communist on these boards.
How do you define yourself politically? Do you identify with a particular party, and do you always vote for them whatever? I assume if you’re still reading this thread you have political *values* what are they? Do you think they are mainstream or not?
I guess I should start – I think I’d define myself as a liberal, which is to say I’m big on personal freedoms and personal choice. I’m not a Libertarian though – I think the state is a necessary evil; undesirable because by definition the more power it has the fewer rights the individual has, but necessary because the alternatives will leave the most vulnerable in a terrible position. I’m quite paternalistic in that I think we have a moral duty to look after our fellow man, but I also think that only does so far. I suppose I identify more with the right than the left generally (although I think these terms are becoming less and less useful). My vote is not loyal atm, but I think it could be in the future; in the past I’ve voted Green, Conservative, Lib Dem and Plaid Cymru. I think I’m mainstream but unfashionable.
