Entertaining and engrossing, decent trio of performances (though I wouldn't say particularly remarkable), some nice visuals sprinkled about and an overall good stab at a classic psychodrama.
However....I don't think it amounts to much more than that. Most of the shocks/tricks are quite crude and owe more to schlocky horror films than intelligent psychological dramas. The characters are pretty one dimensional (which is fine for this, but don't mistake it for something probing) and I think Aronofsky has had better visuals. It's Polanski-lite, really.
But he does know how to pull off a finale.
