Oyster Card moan
I live in zone 4 in the south of London. I have always to this point used paper tickets because there didn't seem a lot of point to get an Oyster Card when I'd probably lose it and thus lose £5 and I'd usually go up to the travelcard limit whenever I went into central London anyway. But with the non-oyster bus prices now £2.20 (I very occasionally get buses) and them doing away with the £5.10 zone 2-6 travelcard (what a bunch of utter knobends for this by the way) I figured I'd get one.
I read online that it is £2.20 for any off peak single zone 2-4, so I figured great - will only cost me £4.40 from my local station to Turnham Green and back where I play football on Tuesdays. However it charged me £4.40 to get there, counting the short (but not walkable) train trip and then the District Line journey as two different journeys. I mean what the fuck. Its not like I got off at Wimbledon, went out of the station and had a huge fucking party then went off somewhere else, I just changed trains because I had to. A paper single ticket from my station to Turnham Green would have only cost me £4 because it counts it all as one journey. Totally stupid.
I'm not usually one to get irate about these sorts of things but TFL are really taking the piss with these price hikes and the fact that oyster cards seem to be totally nonsensical in certain situations. It must have only been 3 or so years ago that a zone 2-6 travelcard was £3.60. The equivalent journey is now £7.30. I didn't listen much when I did Economics A-Level, but I remember enough to know that that doesn't make sense.
