Goldeneye
This was on ITV2 last night, and watching the first half an hour reminded me of how good it was.
Here are some reasons why:
- Sean Bean is in it. This makes it immediately better than films which, for example, don't include Sean Bean.
- SPOLIER: Sean Bean dies. This is how things should be, and Goldeneye does well for acknowledging it.
- The opening bungee jump is fricking epic.
- Ditto the bit where he drives a motorbike off a cliff to catch a falling plane.
- He drives an old Aston Martin, WHILE WEARING A CRAVAT.
- Alan Cumming as Boris.
- Xenia Onatopp. Onatopp? Onatopp. Who, incidentally, crushes men to death with her thighs.
- Robbie Coltrane before he got annoying.
- The fact it deals with the end of the Cold War and the subsequent shift in attitudes is smartly done.
- Judi Dench. And, to a lesser extent, Samantha Bond.
- Tank!
- "For England, James?" "No. For me."
- Piers Brosnan does comedy and menace really well, and he looks like a dude. He is the best Bond, and as such, the man I still apsire to be.
- The theme tune, while sung by Tina Turner, was written by Bono and the Edge. This isn't awesome, but is good trivia.
- Inspired one of the most fondly remembered computer games I know of.
Any more reasons why it's amazing?
