Masterchef - that was a bit long wasn't it
Bumper episode last night, first night of the finals and it went on forever.
First up the three finalists had to make some fancy pastry things for some renowned jowly pastry chef, and his sous chef and bloke from the Fat Duck, at the Langham hotel. All three done pretty well, Geordie John messed up his timings again and although he got out his vanilla thing cooked a billion different ways it was melting baldy. The judges thought it was decent enough with Fat Duck greasy hair nice man being all nice about it.
Next up Claire made some wasabi thing in a glass, to me it looked the easiest one and she got very good comments from the judges.
Finally was shakey hand man, Dave, who done well with some pistachio cake thing. Not perfect but not far off.
They then went back to the studio and made a trio of deserts. Gregg walked round perma-smiling and having a cheeky little pocket tug. All three done well with Geordie John perhaps doing the best.
Next the three of them were off to Copenhagen to work at Noma, current best restaurant in the world, with celebrated chef Rene Redzepi. Mr Redzepi seemed an extremely nice man, he made gags, he gave words of comfort and encouragement and he wore a shocking scarf. Compare him to the likes of Marcus Wareing, Ramsey and other numpties with huge attitude and egos and it put them all to shame.
First up they had to forage for loads of, for want of better words, plants and weeds. They then had to come up with a dish using these and some fish they had never cooked before. All three done great, Rene was happy, again he made some jokes and offered great words of encouragement. All three were made up.
They then had control of the kitchen and had to cook for some famous Danish chefs, regular Noma customers and Gregg and Michel. They all done really well again, even shakey hands man controlled his nerves and poured sauce at the table.
Back to the studio to make two dishes. John messed up his timings yet again which affected his presentation but his flavours were good, Claire made a brilliant fish first dish but not such a good second one and Dave made something I can't really remember.
Tonight is the last episode where they cook for loads of chefs.
