THURSDAY football THREAD
An interesting day/night of football yesterday. Mixed emotions as a SPurs fan having witnessed the ridiculous to the sublime at the San Siro. As a game we'd be expecting to lose, i can't be too disappointed; however there's still a sense of 'what if' following the Gareth Bale show in the second half. Most fans of the PL were already aware of how special a talent Bale is; now the world knows. An absolutely stunning hat-trick (you'll not see many better) in which Bale destroyed inter's right side on two separate occasions, the only negative being his third came with just a minute remaining :( He's probably the best left-sided player around right now, and will be top of everyone's wish list come january/summer. For the first time in a while, i'm actually fairly confident of holding onto him (unlike when Berbatov and Carrick became hot property) though. We'll obviously need to retain CL football, but with United and liverpool in apparent free-fall, this is a realistic target for us. Anyways, our defending first half was laughable, but we'll learn, and have salvaged a lot of positives from a game where a score of 7 or 8-0 looked possible. Very pleased/proud with the second half.
The world's divided over rooney/united. I've heard ocmpelling arguments on both sides. Sooner he's gone, the better though as this'll just drag and drag. Looks like City's tappiung up has paid off - the £billion a week they offered has obviously turned his head. On the pitch, united destroy the giants of bursaspor 1-0.
Rangers almost do brilliantly by winning a home CL game against non-rubbish opposition, but then draw.
Sorry this a bit one-sided, please fill in the gaps below. You know how it is - GARETH BALE, ftw.
