House Grumbles
We live in a building with 14 flats, each one having a smoke detector which feeds a master system in the front hallway. Every now and then the operating board thing in the hallway starts beeping and it can't be turned off. there's a light on it saying there's a fault, so eventually the land lord contacts everyone telling them that someone has fiddled with their smoke detector and that if they didn't fix it, she'd be forced to check each one.
last night one of the guys from another flat came round for a catch up, and pointed out that she'd now put a few tiny bits of paper on the smoke alarm, with a little dot on each one. I presume this is her method of spying on us to find out which one is playing with the detector. I take umbrage with this. We're all adults, and I’ve told her a few times that I’ve not touched the alarm, which of course I haven't, so I dislike being spied on like that.
Moreover apparently there are rumours going around other people in the building that we’re the ones who have been tampering, which I think is a bit rude really, we’ve never even met some of these people, and I’d imagine that the rumour has something to do with the people below us who hate us for daring to listen to music at an enjoyable level at 17:30 on a Saturday once! I don’t mind that much, but this is a building where people are unable to follow simple recycling instructions; food and non-recyclables are so prevalent in the recycling that we’re close to being fined by the council. I basically cannot believe how moronic people are sometimes. I bet they voted Tory too.
