Does anyone here regularly read/buy The Independent? If so, why?
I just don't really get its 'niche' any more. Its always been the lowest circulating broadsheet but now its dropped to 150,000 or something, with no discernible USP as far as I can see, I just don't get it.
They've eased off their big statement front pages in recent times, which whilst attracting some some criticism at least was a unique identifier.
I picked up a copy the other day as there was nothing else left at the newsagent, and wasn't really impressed. The Guardian obviously has its centre-left readers, sleek design and its finger on the cultural pulse, whilst The Times is obviously England's paper of record and The Telegraph is top choice for City Tories.
But the sport, entertainment, politics, design and cultural aspects of the independent just seem lacking compared to the aforementioned paper... do you think it'll be about for much longer? Or is it just me who thinks this..
