Cheeky council-tax avoiding thread
Well really i need some answers. Or rather one answer, to the following question. It would be much appreciated if at least someone could be arsed to read the following. Thanks!
So bascially me and my flatmate previously had an arrangement where she would pay council tax of £152 on her account every month and i would pay half or not depending on other bills that month. But she's shit so forgot to pay it one month and didnt read the letter informing her of this, so then the council lumped 3 months worth of bills together to £456 pounds, which we left to mature for a while. Then they threatened to take us to court and impose a £101 bill for this if we didnt pay by sometime earlier this month.
So I tried to pay but Lloyds blocked my account cos it was such a big bill it looked like identity fraud. When i called up and unblocked it, the lady said (or kinda heavily implied, but i didnt tell the council that) the bill was just suspended, and went through now i'd contacted lloyds. But it didnt, so we got the £101 pound fine and bailiffs threatened in 14 (now 10) days if we didnt pay.
I've just phoned the council up and they said if i wrote a letter arguing my case for the fine to be dropped (on the grounds that it wasnt my fault and stuff, and the council has more resources to deal with 'administrative errors' than me (i totally sold it over the phone)) then they would postpone the bailiffs until they replied. They also said that a reply to the letter would take 20 working days about.
I'm in Europe in 20 days travelling, and we will no longer be renting the flat.
So what i'm wondering is, what would happen if i basically ran away? Would they just keep on fining me forever until i owed them a squillion pounds? Or could they essentially do nothing about it?
Thanks for reading! Boring thread of the day, eh?
