Infernal Affairs II...
...is so much better than the first it's embarrassing. Not really a fan of prequels usually, but when they're done well - and this is done brilliantly - they are very cool indeed.
They got rid of the silly flashbacks to "the good times" whenever someone dies, there's more action, the characters are more vivid, the script is tighter, the photography is excellent, and the story is fiendishly complex and unpredictable even knowing how it all turns out.
My favourite sequences/scenes (SPOILERS AHOY):
- The opening walk through night time, neon-lit Hong Kong. Choral strings floating sweetly while we follow some apparently random guy through the city until he reaches his destination: The shop front of a Triad boss. We realize we've been following Ming, who calmly shoots the boss before walking away. GET SOME.
- That part where they find out that Yan is related to the dude who is clearly based on Michael Corleone. GET SOME.
- The part at the airport with Sam's wife. With the phonecall and the hitmen. You know what I'm talking about. GET SOME.
- When the dude who is clearly based on Michael Corleone finds out the truth about Yan, just as he dies. GET SOME.
