You've changed, man.
Morning all.
Does anyone have a friend, or friends, who you lost touch with for a while, and then when you reunite they've bucked the usual trend and developed shit taste in music?
I recommend reading the following while listening to this:

Between 15 and 18 my friend Ste was literally the only person I talked about music with (Darlington at that time was the kind of town where you would be pelted in the street for looking like a "bogger"), and in that time we moved quickly from the customary embarrassing nu-metal fixation to Sonic Youth, Mogwai, Godspeed, great post-hardcore and basically set the framework for my whole taste in music now. We went to every gig together in that intensely fauxmoerotic way only nerdy teens know how to muster, and waited around the artists exit of Newcastle University Union meeting Hundred Reasons and Cave In and Biffy Clyro and Rival Schools before running off to catch the last train home and drink our single can of Stella.
Then we lost touch when we went to our respective universities and developed social skills, perhaps a little ashamed of our wierdly secretive late teen activities. I'd see him every now and then during summers though, usually in HMV, and we'd catch up by bemoaning the dearth of decent music in store. We even went up to Steel Wheels in Newcastle for a day trip, it was like old times! We browsed for hours. We compared our purchases over milkshakes. We had a can of Stella on the train. The magic was still there.
But then I didn't see him at all until late last year, a 5 year gap perhaps. We awkwardly caught up on girlfriends, housing, jobs, those "important" topics, until I couldn't bear it any longer. "So what are you listening to?!" I asked, slightly above the volume level required for our location, startling a nearby toddler.
He looked at me askance, and, as if it didn't even matter, casually tossed out the name Hard Fi.
Fucking Hard Fi.
He also thought "them Kings Of Leon are pretty good", and boasted of a recent Kasabian gig. I was crestfallen. True, the guy was always kind of a knob and the only reason we were ever friends was that nobody else would go and see The Copperpot Journals on a rainy Tuesday night with a 2 hour round trip, but that's beside the point. It was a dagger through my heart.
He since added me on Facebook. I couldn't bring myself to confirm.
Anyone else?
