A fine result if not performance by Man United in Milan last night, they have to be mega favourites to progress to the last 8. Rooney outstanding 2nd half, Ronaldinho showed glimpses of class and Valencia did more in the first 5 minutes he was on the pitch than Nani did in his 65 odd. Beckham seemed to spend more time waving imaginary cards than playing football.
Lyon beat Real Madrid 1-0 leaving that tie quite nicely balanced for the 2nd leg.
Man City get a point at Stoke who have Amdy Faye sent off. Interesting comments by Pulis after the game, I quite like him to be honest. Reports suggest Vieira was lucky not to be sent off early on and a seemingly good Ryan Shawcross goal was chalked off at the end. City go 4th, still with a game in hand on Liverpool.
Everton beat Sporting Lisbon 2-1 in the UEFA Cup. A late penalty concession makes Sporting the favourites to progress now, especially given Everton’s last effort in Portugal. Arguably more important is the loss of Fellaini for 6 months.
Arsenal travel to Porto tonight without about 17 players or something. I fancy them to nick a point.
West Brom go top of the Championship after a 1-1 draw at Cardiff, Forest close the gap with a 1-0 win over Sheff Utd. Towards the bottom, good results for Derby, Peterborough, Plymouth and Scunthorpe keep things exciting.
Leeds continue to piss their way through the most exciting, best and biggest wonderfulness division of all time losing 2-1 at home to Walsall. In honesty, this looks like a blip. I think they have too much quality not to be going up automatically. Colchester move to within 3 points of them with a 1-0 win at Yeovil, Huddersifled strengthen their play off claims with a 2-1 win at Carlisle.
In League 2 Hereford beat Aldershot 2-0, Lincoln City’s late late show beats Accrington 2-1 and Morecambe overcome Burton 3-2 thanks to Paul Mullin’s 85th minute winner.
Peter Taylor becomes Bradford manager until the end of the season, Junior Lewis will no doubt end up assisting him.
Mark McGhee is spat at by fans after Aberdeen’s 1-0 defeat in the Scottish Cup at home to Raith Rovers. Gordon Brown said to be chuffed.
In the Conference, Oxford go 3 points clear of Stevenage with a 1-0 win over Ru$hden & Diamond$. Yay! Altrincham beat Eastbourne 3-0, Salisbury beat Tamworth 1-0, York and Luton draw 0-0. Gateshead beat Barrow 2-1 in a relegation 6 pointer to move out of the drop zone.
Hendon have another man sent off as they lose 2-1 at Boreham Wood. Discipline is becoming a problem. James Parker’s own goal seals our fate. Billericay beat Margate 3-1 in the only other game to survive the weather.
