How Do You Do? 2 - Sat 6th Febuary (Olerich centric)
Hello.
Richard, aka Olerich, who used to post here has asked me to plug his night on the 6th of Feb. A lot of you will no doubt already know about it but here's the skinny:
Hello!
On February 14th 2009 I celebrated my 24th birthday by hosting the inaugural How Do You Do at The Good Ship. It was a truly wonderful night with fantastic bands, DJs and a wonderful compere (ahem). Therefore it is my pleasure to announce that How Do You Do? 2 will be held on February 6th 2010! As you can see I have moved it away from Valentines day this time, so no excuses along the lines of 'we have a table booked for valentines', 'We are spending the evening in together', 'I am meeting the Pope' or 'I just don't like you Richard'.
I have been extremely lucky to pull together a fantastic line up (even if I say so myself) for the evening, and I am sure you will all agree that you are in for one hell of an evening. So, I am proud to say the line up is as follows:
TRASH KIT: http://www.myspace.com/trashkit
If any of you have had the questionable pleasure of spending time in my company since June, then you would have probably heard me rant about/drag you to see Trash Kit. A staggeringly good 3 piece, I will wager good money that you will be left with your jaws well and truly dropped once they are done with you. Having already played with the likes of Marnie Stern, No Age, Vivian Girls and more, and with a highly anticipated album on the horizon through Upset The Rhythm, this could well be one of those nights when you can brag and say 'I was there'.
'Rachel, Rachel and Ros are some of the hardworking-est kickassest people we know playing music right now. In warpaint and boxing shorts, they're bringing the fight with their broken-cymbals; howls and stamps; claps and screams. They write messed up melodies like nobody we've heard in ages. They might be inspired by Marnie Stern, Raincoats and Y Pants but they take it one step further by shredding on a violin classicxcore style. ' Neumagazine.co.uk
BETTY AND THE WEREWOLVES: http://www.myspace.com/bettyandthewerewolves
My Christmas was made this year by confirmation on Christmas Eve that Betty and The Werewolves were to play at HDYD2. Those of you who picked up the latest Rough Trade Indiepop collection will already be familiar with the sheer delight of their sounds (The fantastic 'David Cassidy' appears on the CD. If you don't already have it, go and get it. Now. Go on, we'll still be here when you get back) and those of you who haven't seen the light will soon be hailing them as your new favourite band.
'They are three girls and one boy from London who whoop and howl through the night as sweetly sung melodies collide with glitter-struck punk guitars.
Taking inspiration from luminary lycanthropes Virginia Woolf and Grandma Wolf, they sing ditties about falling in love with David Cassidy and strange encounters on night buses, shouting all the while and scuffing up their party shoes.' - Damaged Goods
And finally, I am delighted to announce a collaboration between 3 of the stars of How Do You do? 2009, who go under the guise of LYNX AFRICA! They are:
MAT RIVIERE: http://www.myspace.com/matriviere
JAM ON BREAD: http://www.myspace.com/jamonbreadyay
GRACE FROM THE MIDDLE ONES : http://www.myspace.com/themiddleones
Now, I must be honest and say that I do not know what is in store from this fantastic trio, but I can guarantee you it will be incredible. Those of you who caught them this year will know full well that you will have to surrender yourselves before the first note is played, because resistance is useless. It is my pleasure to have them back after making the inaugural event such a raging success.
But as well as these 3 fantastic acts (and come on, admit it, it's awesome), the party will last long into the night with DJ sets from the wonderful MUSIC IS MY BOYFRIEND and the controversial THE AXIS. Any damage caused to your feet from too much dancing is entirely your own fault.
For those of you who have never been, The Good ship is situated on Kilburn High Road and is one of the best venues in London (Map here: http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=1G1GGLQ_ENUK303&lr=&safe=images&um=1&ie=UTF-8&q=good+ship+kilburn&fb=1&gl=uk&hq=good+ship+kilburn&hnear=London&cid=0,0,5296957717378616294&ei=FvM5S-2iKZL84AbnncGqCA&sa=X&oi=local_result&ct=image&resnum=1&ved=0CAoQnwIwAA).
It is easily accessible via London Overground (Brondesbury), Jubilee Line (Kilburn), National Rail (Kilburn High Road) and Bakerloo line (Kilburn Park). There are also numerous buses that service the area. Directions can be found at http://www.thegoodship.co.uk/directions.shtml
All of this fun can be had for a staggeringly cheap £4 by saying you are 'attending' via the facebook event, or with a flyer (which is in the process of being designed!). Otherwise it will be a still fantastic £6 on the night. 3 incredible acts, Great DJs and more for £4/£6, what more do you want from me? Blood?
So hopefully I will be seeing you all on the 6th February for a night that will go down in history. HOW DO YOU DO?
(NB: this will also be my 25th Birthday party, so please come and commiserate me)
Richard xxx
