john hughes
i just watched train, planes and automobiles which got me thinking about him, dying and all this year....and how....with every other thing left unturned from the year, i haven't seen anything said about his death recently
and then i thought about m83 being picked by dis as album of the year last year....and that has john hughes written all over it
and then phoenix being picked by dis for the top spot this year....that prompted somone to make that montage with phoenix over loads of brat pack clips, and alan mcgee to write this

then i thought about apatow et al and their brand of comedy which you could argue has dominated the last five odd years....and how so much of that is influenced by the john hughes style.
''I mean, it was all there first in John Hughes' films. Whether it's 'Freaks and Geeks' or 'Superbad,' the whole idea of having outsiders as the lead characters, that all started with Hughes.''
then, one of the films of the year, adventureland, that has hughes all over it.
or kevin smith, who helped bring along in a new brand of lo-fi slacker cinema in the 90's
''If it weren't for him, I wouldn't be doing what I do. Basically my stuff is just John Hughes films with four-letter words''
and then this

''whatever else you might say about John Hughes, you have to give him this - he got there first, and showed everybody else the way.''
basically, i rekon he's responsible for an entire way of acting and viewing your adolescence, young adulthood, whatever.....which seems to have stuck and permeates a heap of stuff that's making shakes today....mostly film, comedy, but even music.
and let's ignore any flwas or holes in his ethos and the fact that it's strictly whie middle class problems and all a pretty escapist none too threatening in either direction form of angst about relatively trivial issues....like woody allen.....basically he was like the 80's woody allen
and well...erm...i dunno...this was just gonna be a 'i just watched planes trains and automobiles' thread...so i don't really have much of a point....
basically....john hughes...dead now, but....erm...y'know...salut.
