is anyone else excited/mildly enthusiastic/intrigued about the new nick hornby novel?
...released today.
i am quite..didn't expect to be, but saw a poster today and it put my spirits up
''It tells the story of Duncan, a British music fan obsessed with the fictional reclusive singer-songwriter Tucker Crowe, and his album Juliet. The plot revolves around the release of Juliet, Naked, a collection of demo versions of Juliet's tracks. The novel has been compared with Hornby's debut novel, High Fidelity.''
come on. that's a winner right?
and it's like i said before. the best a man can rationally hope for in life is to resemble a blurry version of a nick hornby character
'you can either own a record shop or teach english.....you've got enough for rent and a few records/books/pints per month.....you've got a charming girlfriend who doesn't make you feel anxious or depressed....which sounds boring but it isn't........a close group of soild friends.......trips to the pub/cinema on your own..........your not the smartest or best looking guy but you're ok.....you've read books like the unbearable lightness of being and love in the time of cholera and you think you've understood them...........your flat is small but pleasant and full of things you like and comfortable.......etc etc etc.......with a bit of encouragement you might even do something a little extra to pep your life up (raise a bairn/start your own record lable)'
looks good to me.
