Chelsea run out 1-0 winners against Porto. Really quite awful game if I'm honest but I'd wager a great deal of that was down to the torrential rain (I'm surprised the game went ahead really, seeing as QPR-Palace fell foul of the weather. Maybe Briatore should sort out their pitch?). No-one seemed to be able to put the right weight on the ball, meaning Chelsea couldn't string more than 3 passes together and Porto couldn't shot to save their lives. I thought Porto looked good as far as keeping their shape under pressure went but they were shocking otherwise. Pretty much every one of their chances came from a misplaced pass or unforced error. They barely forced anything.
Scholes hit a later winner for Utd against Besiktas. Good result that. Elsewhere Milan beat Marseille 2-1, Pippo Inzaghi scoring either side of Heinze's equaliser, two late goals gave Bayern Muich a convincing 3-0 win in Haifa and Ronaldo scored two freekicks, one sublime and one ridiculous, as Real Madrid beat Zurich 5-2.
Ipswich have now made their worst start to a league for 40 years (since Bobby Robson's first season in charge of them, in fact). I intensely dislike Roy Keane as a person so hooray! Barnsley beat Derby 3-2, Coventry overcame Sheffield Utd by the same score despite a late fight back and victories for Boro and WBA kept them top of the Championship pile. Scunthorpe perhaps got the most notable result of the night, carrying on the form that saw them destroy Palace at the weekend to beat Preston 3-1.
In other new, Wenger has had a bit of a pop at Mark Hughes ahead of tonight's CL clash with Standard Liege. Liverpool's clash with Debrecen is on ITV so their livewire commentary team will be allowed to mention Stevie G six thousand times. Comfortable wins for both, probably.
