Universities and applications. Advice reluctantly sought. Not expected.
Anyone else applying this year? What for / where etc? I'm not interested, but it makes this thread sound marginally less annoying and mememe. Probably. I forgot how hideous the whole thing is. I made an attempt at writing a personal statement, without a single use of "I" but it sounded kind of very obnoxious. Looking at my last one though, I can only assume everyone else's was equally embarrassing. I think I more or less just wrote the same as every state school kid is told to. Urgh. I'm guessing personal statements matter more for 'mature students' too. Reckon writing it kind of differently to the norm is a bad idea, guess it's got a good chance of just irritating some people, huh? The standard ones are so awful though and they make me feel ill.
Figure I've asked this before, but for people who went to university older, how did you restrain yourself from killing yourself / the annoying stupid brats who have the most brilliantly inane and ridiculous conversations imaginable. I was at college for half an hour today and could barely cope. The number of times I heard the words "twitter", "facebook", "festival", "gig", "boyfriend", "girlfriend", "kissed", "cheated", "shopping", "clothes"... well, I have a headache thinking about it,
Despite the fact that I somehow have to live off £0 for an entire year (unless I somehow get a job, in which case I can still live off £0 after debt/bills) I'm applying to university this year. A few years late. But whatever. And like hell I have any money to visit them, so opinions and things of the universities, or even cities I suppose, though I'm sure I'd hate them all anyhow.
*Cambridge
*SOAS
*Manchester
*Sheffield
*Newcastle
*Leeds
Those are all the reasonably good universities offering the course. Guessing the one to drop there is obvious, though they might ask for less than the others. I hate students.
